#ILSciCom events are free, virtual experiences using the Zoom platform which can be utilized from any device with internet connection. We encourage participants to connect with a microphone and camera so that they can fully participate and interact with our guest speaker(s) and community. The goals of all #ILSciCom events are to foster a supportive, statewide, virtual professional learning network of science educators, find new ideas, share the wonderful things happening in science education in the state of Illinois, and spread the joy and wonder of science.

The Illinois Learning Standards for Science Learning Series is designed to provide a framework for educators to explore the many instructional shifts needed to effectively meet the goals of the Framework for K-12 Science Education and implement the Illinois Learning Standards for Science.

The Learning Series materials are structured to be delivered in Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings, but can be adapted to be used by individual teachers or delivered to larger groups during professional learning.

Currently a working draft of a module that introduces educators to the structure and content of the Illinois Learning Standards for Science called, "What is the difference between the old standards and the new standards?" is available. If you use these materials, please provide feedback to continue to develop and improve this resource here.

Modules that introduce Phenomenon-Driven learning and Three-Dimensional Assessment are in development. If you are interested in piloting these modules, use the
contact form to connect with the Content area specialists.

The Science Teachers in Action Science Classroom Observation Tool is designed to help teachers analyze what is happening in their classrooms in an effort to measure their level of implementation of the Illinois Learning Standards for Science. It helps identify the essential elements of phenomena driven instruction, three dimensional learning, and student driven investigations. This tool is NOT meant to be evaluative, rather it is meant to acknowledge strengths and pinpoint areas that may need more attention or support.
